Hot Dawgs and Handrails Snowboard Contest Bear Mountain 2008

Here is a couple of highlights from the contest at Bear Mountain yesterday. I was up there all day shooting, and got a ton of shots to break in my new camera. I thought i would post a few for everyone to check out. They hauled in something like 100 tons of snow for the event and just blew it out of huge hose. It takes a few hours to cover everything and then melts quickly. A pretty expensive deal, but it draws in alot of people, and the prize purse was $12,ooo!!!
Everything went smooth and nobody had to get hauled away from injury, but there was plenty of crashing as well as some crazy tricks being stomped. The highlight had to be the double backflip that was thrown (the shot below with the hat falling off).

Other than that, it was a beautiful day at Bear and it felt good to see some snow. I am definately looking foward to the season, I will be hitting some more contests, and shooting some more of the team. kids from powder and sun ride shop..

Canon 5D Mark II announced !!! FINALLY

Brennandesigns.com

Finally after 3+ years cannon announces its 5D replacement. While the hd capture sure interests me I am kind of let down by the lack of frames per second but with the 21 mega pixel full frame sensor it will sure make a nice landscape camera.. While it might be a little overkill to shoot it at full resolution at all times it sure is nice having those extra pixels when you know you want to go big on a print. But where is the full weather sealing? I wonder how good the "improved weather sealing" is? I do like the IR remote feature though that sure make it nice being able to use the rc1 wireless remote. I also looking forward to seeing the performance at ISO 50.

After so many rumors going around and then the new Canon 50D being released with some pretty impressive specs, the 5D Mark II is not the huge jump the 5D was to the 20D in it's day. So that has to make one wonder if there is going to be another camera entering in canon's line up in the next couple of months because as of right now Nikon is still leading the battle and Sony has there new one out that is making things very competitive right now.

Well now we have to wait for the Mark II to hit shelves and see what kind of performance is coming out of there new digic 4 chip and what this hd video is all about.
shawn..

Here is what the canon specs are as posted on there site:

If you want to see it for yourself here you go

High Performance for High Expectation Canon's update to the wildly popular full frame EOS 5D is here, and it's better than ever. The EOS 5D Mark II has a stunning 21.1-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor with DIGIC 4 Image Processor, a vast ISO Range of 100-6400 (expandable to ISO L: 50, H1: 12800 and H2: 25600), plus EOS technologies like Auto Lighting Optimizer and Peripheral Illumination Correction. It supports Live View shooting, Live View HD videos, and more. It can shoot up to 3.9 fps, has 9 AF points plus 6 AF assist points, a new 98% coverage viewfinder, a 3.0-inch Clear View LCD (920,000 dots/VGA) and a rugged build. Full-frame shooters rejoice!
